Do I have a Stress? Am I facing Stress? Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical tension. We can face stress in our day-to-day life. It can come from any event or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry or nervous. Stress is your body’s reaction to a challenge or demand.

In short bursts, stress can be positive, such as when it helps you avoid danger or meet a deadline. What can cause Stress? Life stresses like *The death of loved one*Divorce*Loss of job*Increase in financial obligations*Getting married*Moving to New house*Chronic illness or injury Emotional problems like depression, Anxiety, anger, grief, guilt, low self-esteem.

How stress can damage your health? Indeed, stress symptoms can affect your body, your thoughts and feelings, and your behavior. Being able to recognize common stress symptoms, can help you to manage them. Stress that’s left unchecked can contribute to many health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes.

The body’s autonomic nervous system has a built-in stress response that causes physiological changes to allow the body to combat stressful situations. The stress response also known as the fight or flight response is activated in case of an emergency. Prolonged activation of the stress response causes wear and tear on the body both physical and emotional.

WARNING SIGNS OF STRESS CAN BE*Apathy, lack of energy*Difficulty making decisions*Difficulty keeping track of things*Feeling on edge*A change in eating habits*Sleeping more than usual or difficulty getting to sleep* Being more emotional*Using alcohol or drugs to relieve or forget stress.*Sexual dysfunction.*Upset stomach*Grinding teeth*Muscle tension in neck, face or shoulders.*Weight gain or loss Stress also becomes harmful when people engaged in the compulsive use of substances or behaviors to try to relieve their stress.

These substances or behaviors include food, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gambling, sex, shopping and the internet. Rather than relieving the stress and returning the body to a relaxed state, these substances and compulsive behaviors tend to keep the body in a stressed state and cause more problems. The distressed person becomes trapped in a vicious cycle.
